Warton residents say no to cold callers

Warton residents say no to cold callers

A NEW No Cold Calling Area is helping residents in Warton keep rogue
traders away from their doors.

Residents of three roads in the area are the latest to sign up for a
scheme to deter bogus salespeople and distraction burglars.

Lancashire County Council Trading Standards Service is leading the
initiative in response to complaints that elderly residents have been
targeted by high pressure salespeople. The No Cold Calling Area has been
established in partnership with local residents, Neighbourhood Watch,
and Lancashire Police.

The zones are marked by high visibility street signs warning cold
callers they're not welcome and have been shown to deter sellers and
give residents the confidence to say 'no' to anyone who decides to knock
on their door.

County Councillor Albert Atkinson, deputy leader of Lancashire County
Council, said: "Our advice is to always say no to cold callers and to
avoid doing business on the doorstep - we receive hundreds of complaints
every year.

"No Cold Calling Areas have proved to be an effective deterrent and we
strongly support communities who want to establish them - we now expect
instances of doorstep selling and distraction burglaries to drop in this
area."

Residents of Elder Close, Millfield Avenue and Westfield Drive in Warton
have also been given stickers to display in their windows to warn off
cold callers. They have been asked to report any unwanted salespeople to
Trading Standards for follow-up action.

The new scheme is the 83rd No Cold Calling Zone to be set up in
Lancashire and the first in Warton. 71% of residents in the area
responded to a survey supporting its introduction.

County Councillor Atkinson added: "Rogue traders prey on vulnerable
people, often conning them out of vast sums of money for work that is
substandard, unnecessary, and overpriced. They then disappear, leaving
the resident to pick up the pieces. Dealing with a rogue trader can have
a very bad effect on the victim's wellbeing."

Cold callers shut out in Silverdale

A NEW No Cold Calling Area is helping residents in Silverdale keep rogue
traders away from their doors.

Residents of five roads in the area are the latest to sign up for a
scheme to deter bogus salespeople and distraction burglars.

initiative in response to complaints that elderly residents have been
targeted by high pressure salespeople.

Paul Noone, head of Lancashire County Council Trading Standards Service,
said: "Our advice is to always say no to cold callers and never do
business on the doorstep - we receive hundreds of complaints every year.

"No Cold Calling Areas are an effective deterrent and we strongly
support communities who want to establish them - we now expect instances
of doorstep selling and distraction burglaries to drop in this area."

Residents of Spring Bank, Levens Way, Hazelwood, St John's Avenue and St
John's Grove in Silverdale have also been given stickers to display in
their windows to warn off cold callers. They have been asked to report
any unwanted salespeople to Trading Standards for follow-up action.

The new scheme is the 82nd No Cold Calling Zone to be set up in
Lancashire and the first in Silverdale. More than 70% of residents in
the area responded to a survey supporting its introduction.

Paul Noone added: "Rogue traders prey on the elderly and vulnerable,
often conning them out of vast sums of money for work that is
substandard, unnecessary, and overpriced. They then vanish, leaving the
resident to pick up the pieces. Dealing with a rogue trader can have a
very bad effect on the victim's health and confidence."

Fat Boy!

Fat Boy!

Just a very interesting term coined for the dish that is being held up by Yin Yin (left) & Krystal (right). It is this "fat" looking dish filled with meat and peanut butter sauce wrapped in "roti" similar to that we get back in Southeast Asia. This is one of the best dishes on serve at the Machine Laundry Cafe in Salamanca, and a very filling and yummy one!

Btw, it was Yin Yin's birthday the day prior, so here is to wishing her a happy 22nd birthday!

@ Machine Laundry Cafe, Salamanca, Hobart, Tasmania, Australia.

Fat boy

Fat boy

Charmingly known as Fat Boy, this chubby cherub was built to commemorate the staying of the Great Fire in 1666, which was attributed by some as a punishment for gluttony, as it began in a bakery.
However it was also blamed on the Catholics.
